Questions
Do I need to know pinyin before I start?
No. Every line a teacher writes comes with pinyin on top, and the pronunciation check shows the pinyin you were aiming for next to what you actually said. You pick it up as you go.
Which Mandarin does Zhihuzhe teach?
Standard Mandarin (Putonghua), the variety used in HSK exams, news broadcasts and most textbooks. Checks are scored against it, including the tone changes native speakers make without thinking, like 你好 and 一杯.
I'm a complete beginner. Is this too advanced?
Start with Xiao Lin. Tell her you're new and she'll keep to short sentences, explain in English when you need it, and move up as you do.
Can I use it without the app?
